Sirio Primary and Nursery School

In 2008 a school was constructed on the second property: currently a total of 300 children are taught in 9 classes, including, but not limited to, the children of the orphanage. For the youngest residents of the orphanage a Baby-Class was created. The tuition fee is even for Kenyan standards considered marginal. Furthermore, the integration of the HIV-orphans in the society is facilitated by the shared classes.

P1010994In fall 2013 the first „Tumaini Kid“ successfully completed the graduating class. The subsequent high school education in a neighboring residential school could be financed. This is a great incentive for the other children. Regarding the medium term it is preferable to make the school financially self-sustaining, so that it can regularly contribute to the general household budget of the overall project.

Teachers of the school have taken over the psychological mentoring, as well as the educational work, of the “Tumaini Kids” to better serve the needs of the adolescents.

An individual mentoring of the children with special needs, e.g. developmental speech delays caused by severe deafness or general developmental delay, is urgently needed and its implementation planned for 2014.
