Annual Report 2014

TWFV e. V. consists of 10 members who actively promote the objectives of the charity by either personal contacts or via the official website (www.tumaini-waisenhaus.de). Newsletters are sent to all donors on a regular basis. On the website a newsticker informs about events at the orphanage and all the reports of our regular visits in Kenya are published in 2014 a radio program was broadcasted at Christmas (Radio Bonn-Rhein-Sieg) and in January 2015 a Charity run partly in benefit of TWFV e. V. was organized by Gymnasium Troisdorf Altenforst

In 2014 the TWFV e.V. collected money which was exclusively spent for charitable issues. These project are:

  1. Tumaini Children`s Home for HIV orphans at Bamburi, Kenya
  2. Kikambala Feeding Project, Kikambala, Kenya
  3. Shanzu Transitional Workshop For Disabled Young Women, Shanzu, Kenya

The project consists of an orphanage (Tumaini Children`s Home, 57 children), a school (Sirio Nursery &Primary School, 300 pupils), a Clinic (Tumaini Clinic) and a Vocational Center (Tazama Tayloring School). In 2014 TWFV e.V. transferred a total sum of 46.000 EUR to the home, quarterly reports were submitted by the management commettee in charge (chairman: Dr. Varinder Singh Sur) and can be reviewed on request. All money transfers within Kenya can be followed online. The money was spent exclusively for food, daily needs, medical support of the children as well as for the Vocational Center. Nearly EUR 2000 were spent to cover the medical expenses of one child, who unfortunetely died in August 2014 due to non-treatable AIDS. A total of 1.500 EUR was spent to buy 65 mattresses for the children and the mothers who are in charge of the children on a 24 hour basis. Furthermore, in January 2015 TWFV e.V. received 7.777 EUR from Gymnasium Troisdorf Altenforst. This money was spent to fund annual High School education of 5 adolescents including boarding school. The president and the vice-president visited the Project twice in 2014, discussing budget and future plans and visions. Gillian Piroth (ECB Frankfurt) visited the project in December 2014 for the first time. Regarding administrative costs it can be stated that no money was spent for administration at all. These costs are totally covered by the 10 members of the charity themselves including all travel expenses.

In contrast to the Tumaini Childrens Home Project our support for the weekly feeding project organized by the local Hindu community is directed exclusively to help feeding approximately up to 2000 children on a single Sunday afternoon. The feeding project exists since 2003. TWFV e.V. supports this project since many years. In 2014 we were able to give EUR 4.000 raised by contributions made for this specific purpose.

This project is supported mainly by The Kenyan Girl Guides Association and single kenyan families. TWFV e.V. sponsors physiotherapeutical therapy for 30 women with motor disability since 2014.

The main concern of TWFV e.V. is to support the Tumaini Children`s Home Project on a long-term perspective. Therefore, it is essential to budget funds in the most efficient way and to have clear visions of future needs. According to our self-concept we feel responsible to cover medical requirements (TWFV e.V. budget 2015: 10.000 EUR), alimentation and daily needs (TWFV e.V. budget 2015: 48.000 EUR) as well as education and vocational training (TWFV e.V. budget: 2015 10.000 EUR)

In conclusion, we are fully aware that supporting a Children`s Home for HIV orphans in Africa implies a live-long obligation for those who are in charge either locally on-site or abroad raising funds like the TWFV e.V.. However, intercultural diversity between african and european attidutes is sometimes challenging. But the trust of the children in those who care for them is profound. Every single child has its name, its individual character and personal history. It would be an unethical step backwards to let them down and back into a life without the chance of survival.
