Since December 2011 the Tumaini orphanage also includes a sewing school which is exclusively financed by our charity. This creates the possibility for vocational training, especially for older children. Adolescents from age 12 onwards can achieve a state recognized qualification by participating in either daily teaching during holidays or attending lessons twice a week during the school period, both for a total length of two years.
Female teachers from the Shanzu-Project, which comprises of women with severe disabilities who successfully operate a sewing workshop, train the teenagers and against remuneration also other interested parties from the district, in tailoring. In the long-term perspective the tailoring should also become financially self-sustaining and earn profits if possible.
